  3. i like this guy.

  4. Probably coz the earth has chucked so much shit at Japan since then 🙁

  5. all I have to say is thank you for mentioning sony. Many reviewers and experts completely ignore sony and yet in my opinion, it is a legitimate competitor with attractive prices and products.

  6. shit, prices gone up so much in just under 2 years…

please I have a question… I love the 50mm 1.4, but I’ve read many reviews abou it and many of them said that its autofox had broken (didn’t work) after a few days, and they had to fix it, so I got scared, can you tell me if there is any problem, or just it’s good enough to spend about 400$.
    thank you so much.

  8. I agree with alexbrysonmiley. Canon, Nikon, and Sony all make a 50mm 1.8, which is a third the price. They cost around $150 new at Adorama. I have the Nikon, and it is an awesome lens. It’s best between 2.8 and 8f. The image quality is superb. I wouldn’t spend that much money on a 1.4 unless you really needed it. Otherwise go with the 1.8. they focus fast, and also work excellent with tubes if you shoot macro.

  9. what about the sigma one?

  10. pentax, the same history , sony its not good ill go for sigma lens and canon, or nikon bodies

  11. contrary to the popular belief, it is not.

  12. that one’s crap

  13. the 50 f1.4 is an excellent lens but its around 350-400. if u are on a budget there is the 1.8 which is around 100 and it is a pretty good lens. if money isn’t an issue then i would go for the 1.4

I shoot Nikon 50mm f1.4G, Nikon 85mm f1.4D & Tokina 100mm f2.8 for my portraits. I have to say that these lenses are so sharp that it can simulate a 3D pop of my image. The bokeh is so creamy that it really separates your subject from the background. I really love these lenses and it will surely stay in my camera bag for life!!:-))

  16. You forgot the ultimate portrait lens Nikon 135 DC 😀

olympus is bad for lenses they cost a lot and not much variety

I couldn’t care less about how you feel with Sigmas in general, it doesn’t answer my ORIGINAL question. I’m NOT a Sigma fanboy by any means, but when I asked the video poster a question and you want to butt in, that’s fine, but you didn’t or can’t answer my question. When a site like DXOmark.com that does tests ALL day long ranks the lens in question highly vs the top contenders, I want to hear it from others that actually have hands on experience on all the lenses.

…so, do YOU have any personal experience with this lens vs Canon’s 85mm f1.2/f1.8 or Nikon’s 85mm f1.4?

  21. What lens would you recommend for Olympus users?

  22. danapointtrainer

    I see… but I specifically asked about the Sigma 85mm f1.4

  23. danapointtrainer

even if DXOmark rated Sigma’s 85mm f1.4 just as high as the top contenders? I mean… they do a lot testing, I would think they are pretty reputable (vs just people’s opinions).

  24. It’s really good to see Sony in this lineup. Far too many reviewers just focus on Nikon and Canon in their comparision and dismiss the Sony gear. I have both a Nikon d3s and a Sony a700 and to be honest I’ve grown to love my Sony more than the Nikon. Strange but true. Thanks again

    …also, what’s your take on Sigma’s 85mm f1.4?
