  1. honestly I didnt like this video. I wouldve rather had the model turn around to use the NATURAL and softening light from the sun. the flash, the way you were using it, made the light too harsh on her face and blew it out. wouldve been better to use a studio or use a reflector to take out some of the shadows and have it have a softer look. just my opinion.

  2. ive been asking myself the same question 3times

  3. why shoot at such a high ISO ?

  4. Thank You so much!!! I have been trying to figure the whole background lighting thing out shooting outdoors with a flash since I always hate seeing blown out backgrounds. I watched your video a few times and practiced and FINALLY get it now. Didn”t know about the flash setting the plus and minus which can add more or less light only through your flash to the subject while bringing your background exposure down. You are such a good teacher!! Cant wait to see more videos you have done. Thanks!

Is he high? At 8:35 the model’s exposure goes up and down with the background, it’s not the same at all.

  6. Yeah, my Nikon D300 has separate exposure and flash compensation too. And wouldn’t even the D90 have flash compensation settings in the menus even if there is not a dedicated dial or button?

  7. erm.. my D700 nikon has exposure compensation and flash exposure compensation, thats not just a canon feature..

you skipped one important step: you need to press the flash exposure compensation button (on top, same as ISO button) in order to get into flash exp comp mode.
