@janzgrosseskino Well said. It’s all about practice!

come on people, he explained it very well and it’s not about the gear. it doesn’t matter if you “only” have a D3000, it works the same way! so stop worrying and start shooting!

  3. where did U get that beauty dish?

  4. Hey Dom… I thought In commander mode, the camera’s pop up flash had to be open to control the speedlight? Unless you have a cable or pocket wizard triggering the flash… Just don’t understand how that works.. I have a D7000. and SB-900.

  5. Hey Dom, I have a D7000 now, but i was thinking of picking up a D300 for studio work. Would you recommend this?

I was looking at the ‘more info’ on this video, I couldn’t see what make your beauty dish was. Can you post it please 🙂

  10. its an interfit 6 inch beauty dish its $25 on Adorama.com but you also need to buy the flex mount for it which is only $7 extra I just recieved mine in the mail today and tried low key and it worked great

hey dom, i was really really impressed with the light the beauty dish has produced on this shot. Now, i’m just starting out on strobe photography..so i’m a total noob on this field. I was wondering if you made the beauty dish yourself or bought it. Could you give me the link from where i can make a similar compact b.dish?

  12. Hi. It’s a great tutorial but I’ve got one question to you – how can I get this effect with my D5100 + SB700?

  13. hi great video but just a question, how are you getting a shutter speed of 1/350th sec with flash and not getting a sink problem my canon 5d mark ii has a shutter sink speed of 200.

  14. Does anyone know the name of the beauty dish attached to the off camera flash. I tried googling it, but I only come up with the really large ones on stands. Is this a homemade beauty dish. I would enjoy knowing who makes one like this.

  15. Hi Dom again. maby i sound stupid but half of flash power is it when it says 1/2??

    /Jose.

  16. No mini softbox, i cant find no video of that maby big softbox yes but like 12x15cm i cant find any. there is no body that have made a review indoor and outdoor.

if you make one would be awesome:)

    cheers.

  18. Hey Dom, i have now figured out how to manipulate SB900 the power output from the camera:)

Next quastion is about the beauty dish, i have a mini softbox 12x15cm, maby best using a beauty dish? Do you have any videos about mini softbox? the one you put on the speedlight.

I really need to buy me a umbrella and the one you are using in high key photography what brand and model is it?

    thanks a lot for responding:)

its strong enough for a lot of situations but you may need more flashes or high power flashes for different camera settings or distances or sizes of subjects you want to shoot. i fire the flash with the onboard camera flash using the commander mode where it triggers the flash, however you can do the same with any flash in slave mode

  20. Dombowerphoto

i am in remote mode, and it is technically called commander mode. check my more recent videos where i have much more exact details.

  21. Dombowerphoto

not really but it is much better than just using a naked flash

  22. Hello Dom. is the beauty dish a most have in this situation?

    /Jose

  23. Hi Dom. i was trying now this experiment but turn out bad. i have a d7000, settings ISO 100, 50mmf/6,3, 1/320s. SB900….i dont know if you are in remote mode??? I can only se chanel and group settings on the screen, if you do how can you change the power output to half…1/2 in remote mode???

when you make a toturial please say or show exacly camera settings and speedlight settings. Please Dom help me to make this work.

@Dombowerphoto hi! I’m planing to start on flash photography, do you think a sb 700 strong enough to do low key photos? and how did you fire your flash gun without firing your in camera flash to trigger the flash? Cause I’ve read that I need to use in camera flash to trigger external flashes without pocket wizards. And do you recommend the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8? btw, my camera is Nikon d7000
