How to monitor weight loss?

Too much TV–>Too much junk-food–>Lack physical activity= OBESITY
Childhood obesity is a disease that goes treated with the professional support like: doctors-dietists-psycologists could provide help kids to start this slow and difficult way.
The prevention is basic if assisted through a “Program” based on self-control.

The rules of prevention are:
to reduce the sedentariness: to avoid that our children spend most of their time watching TV and playing videogames influenced by marketing, misleading advertising about sofdrinks, hyper caloric snacks and other foods.

Daily physical activity: a long walking is surely healthier and is the equivalent to waste energy almost 3 times higher than that obtained spending the same time watching TV. Especially are suggested: swimming and biking. The benefits of physical activity are many, from reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases to improvement of mental health.

Balanced nutrition: the dietetic therapy beyond having the purpose to reduce the weight of child also should educate him and his family to a stable nutrition looking for:
- to reduce the caloric insertion.
- to introduce meals that makes feel gratifyied.
- to control the introduction of fat and proteins of animal origins.
- to increase the contribution of carbohydrates to high absorption like fruit and vegetables.
- to decrease the quantity of simple sugar.
- to increase the income of fibers with integral food and the daily insertion of vitamins and minerals.

The overweight’s reduction must be gradual and at long term. Planning new nutritional habits either in the child’s life or in all family, preventing mistakes in the nutrition from the part of the family members.
The child must feel himself like a protagonist of choosing the food respecting the right nutrition and not consider the hyper caloric diet as an order.

To not become overweight and to live in healthy way it’s very important to give a “rhythm” to the daily nutrition.
To the 3 main meals, namely, breakfast, lunch and dinner is necessary to add 2-3 light snacks: yogurth, some fruit or milk avoiding snacks and cracker hypercalorics.

All this to avoid getting the child at the table too starved.
A health feeding education is checking the food’s quality but also the quantity of the consumed food. Good quality = right quantity

Eating smarter and being more active!!!

Choosing a Family Friendly Vacation Destination

Choosing a Family Friendly Vacation Destination

We all love taking vacations to get away, have fun, and relax. But when you have a family it can sometimes be difficult choosing a destination that offers something for both children and adults. As a parent you may be wondering how you can find the perfect vacation spot. Luckily for us there are numerous destinations that offer fun for everyone!

As adults and parents, we know that our children will carry memories of family vacations with them for the rest of their lives. To insure they’ll look back on them with fondness, you’ll need to keep them in mind when selecting your destination. How? By targeting your vacation destination to the age of your children and the type of activities they enjoy.

Keep in mind of course, that there are some vacation activities that are only suitable for children of a certain age or ability. If you have young children and are concerned about the limited number of activities that they may be able to participate in, you could work to develop their abilities. For example, if you are interested in vacationing at the beach or lake, but you have a child that doesn’t know how to swim, you could teach him or her how.
For vacation destinations that are perfect for families, you may want to consider an area that has an amusement park and other similar attractions. You can decide on the size of the amusement park depending on the length of your vacation. For instance, some parks only take a day to enjoy (such as Six Flags), but some are so large that you need 2-3 (Universal Studios, Disney World, etc.). Amusement parks generally offer a wide range of rides and attractions geared towards individuals of all ages. In addition to rides for adults and teenagers, most even include a section with rides specifically for infants and toddlers.
Camping is a popular outdoor activity and makes a great family vacation. Children of all ages generally enjoy camping, especially near a lake or river. You may want to stay in a campground or state park that offers activities such as fishing, boating, and other outdoor sports. Of course if you have a toddler, you may want to examine the decision to vacation in the wilderness since there is a potential danger for them if they wander off unattended.

Keep in mind that these are only two potential options for your family vacation and while they are very popular, they are not the only destinations that offer fun for the whole family. Use your best judgment and talk to your children about what they would like to do. There are a large number of family friendly vacation destinations, and with a little research and planning you’ll be able to select one that the whole family will enjoy and remember.

The History of Contact Lenses

July 29th, 2007 -- Posted in Portraits To Art | Comments Off

The History of Contact Lenses

Contact lenses may seem like a relatively recent invention but they were actually first proposed by Leonardo da Vinci. Read on to find out more about the 500 year history of contacts.

It seems almost incredible that da Vinci first made mention of placing lenses directly onto the eyes way back in 1508 but the great man, who also famously made original designs for a helicopter, was clearly way ahead of his time.
In terms of the modern contact lens, the first such instrument that most of us would recognise was originally developed in 1888 by a physiologist from Switzerland named AE Fick. Fick used a method of taking moulds from the eye to ensure that the lens would fit perfectly.
His early experiments on producing such moulds were usually conducted utilising rabbits. When Fick came to use the first pair of his own lenses he found them to be very uncomfortable - hardly surprising, since they were made of glass!

Indeed, the fact that early contact lenses were made of glass was a real limiting factor. They weren’t just uncomfortable to wear - they were actually bad for the eyes if worn for any prolonged period of time.
All this was to change in the 1930s when American scientists produced the first plastic lenses. These were not, however, without their own problems. The new plastic lenses, like their glass predecessors, were designed to cover the whole eye.
Unfortunately, by covering the whole eye, these early lenses restricted the supply of oxygen, meaning that they were less than perfect.

In 1947 another American, Kevin Tuohy, came up with a lens that only covered the cornea, rather than the entire eye. His new lenses were known as corneal lenses and were similar to what we now know as “hard contact lenses”.
The invention by Tuohy formed the basis of modern contact lenses. It’s thanks to his design and the work of others before him that so many of us are now able to make use of contact lenses.

Indeed, you could say that the vision of these great inventors has helped many of us to see more clearly!
